World’s Best Margarita Recipe – just in time for Cinco de Mayo!

by Katy

Most mamas in the South pass along family recipes for things like fried chicken and collard greens.  Those of you who have ever eaten in my kitchen know that my mom has certainly passed down a lot of tasty food recipes, but what she’s really most famous for are her margaritas!  As a family who knows how to enjoy the finer points in life, we have come to strong-felt conclusions about which ‘rita recipes are the best.  In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we have decided to bless those of you in the blogosphere with our secrets.

I highly encourage you all to whip up a batch today for Cinco de Mayo!

Frozen Margarita Recipe

From Katy and Chris at SimplyBeginning. Created by Katy’s mom.

1. Blend together:

  • 6 oz frozen limeade from concentrate
  • 6 oz frozen lemonade from concentrate
  • 12 oz tequila (We prefer Jose Cuervo Gold)
  • 6 oz triple sec (We prefer Grand Mariner)

2. Set aside half of the above (about 2 cups).  Add ice to the half that remains in the blender until the ice level and the liquid level are about equal. (Most blenders will be about 2/3 full)

3. Blend until smooth.

4. Repeat with the second half.

5. Garnish with fresh lime wedges, and salt the rims if desired.

Mambo Margaritas – On the rocks

From Katy and Chris at SimplyBeginning. Created by the Magnificent Sweet Potato Queens (and if you haven’t read their books, you should go buy and read them right this minute.)

1) Mix the following items into a large pitcher.  It is equal parts of everything, but 12oz is easy to measure because you can buy most of these in 12oz containers!

  • 12 oz. frozen limeade
  • 12 oz. Sprite
  • 12 oz. Corona
  • 12 oz. Tequila

2) Put a spritz of lime in each glass

3) Mix ’em up and enjoy!

Alterations: I like to use Sprite Zero and Corona Light.  I can’t taste the difference, and I might as well spare myself the extra calories.  I also like to add a dash of peach or pomegranate vodka upon occasion to make fruity ritas.

Either of these recipes go great with our Mexican Mac & Cheese recipe!
