Finding the dress!

My shopping team!

Six excited girls headed down to the lovely Smithfield, North Carolina this weekend to go wedding dress shopping (for me) for the first time.  1 store and 7 hours later, we left with the perfect dress!  Yes, I am one of a select few people who decided on a dress in the first store they went in.  Sounds nuts.  I know.

How did I do it?

Trying to get in a big fancy wedding dress... for the first time!

1. Everyone told me only to take 1 or 2 people dress shopping.  Since I’m so great at taking advice from others, I took 5.  It worked out really well, but only because everyone had a job.  I’d highly recommend it!  One friend documented the whole experience, my mom and 2 friends were charged with getting me in and out of as many dresses as possible as quickly as possible and my sister served as a glorified manikin – she tried on with me so I’d always be able to compare one dress to another.

2. Pore over those bridal mags before you shop!  I’ve never been a magazine lady myself, but a couple friends gave me some great magazines when I got engaged, so I read through them, dog-eared the corners of everything I liked, then went back and tore out everything I loved.  I taped small pictures (mostly parts of dresses) that I loved to one sheet of computer paper to be able to compare, and made a note of the brands/ designers I tended to favor.

When we got to Carolina Bridal World, Courtney, our darling consultant who was fabulous and certainly deserves a raise from whatever she is getting paid (I love raises and encourage them often) was able to run around the store and immediately pick out 5 or 10 wonderful dresses for me to try on, including the one I chose… largely because I’d already made a few loose decisions ahead of time.

I can’t show the final choice on here or else Chris will see it, but I will tell you that it’s an Allure, it’s not in any of the pictures on this post, and I love it!  I feel certain that I couldn’t have found a better dress if I’d searched for months and paid 5 times as much :)
