Homemade and Crafted with Love

2011 February 8

Chris and I have all kinds of talented friends and family, so why not show them off?  We’re happy to announce the first shining moment as we highlight the craftiness of Chris’ mom through our homemade save the dates and invitations!

Both of our moms are big fans of homemade cards.  In fact, I can’t tell you how many hours my brother, sister and I have spent making birthday/ Christmas/ get well/ thank you cards over the years.  And, while our family card-making sessions were always stocked with every kind of marker known to man, Chris’ mom, Mrs. Tammy, kicks our card-making butts.

Mrs. Tammy has stamps, special cutters, fancy paper, ribbons, lace – the whole shebang, and she uses most of them to perfectly craft each card she sends out.

We’ve put her expertise to good use to help us design our own save the dates, invitations and thank yous.  (Keep in mind, we haven’t put the save the dates together yet, and it is very possible that our zeal for homemade may wane post-creation!)

Here are our ideas so far…

Save the Dates:

Chris is going to draw cute little bride and groom characters that will be “tying the knot,” a piece of twine glued between our cartoons.  It will be our chance to do something more playful an whimsical before having to send out more formal invitations.

**UPDATE: Read about creating the design and putting together the save the dates!

For the invitations, we are thinking about getting pocketed envelopes with the wedding information glued to the inside and removable cards with other pertinent information – lodging, directions, reception information and RSVPs.  The color will likely match the bridesmaids dresses, and we’ll add a swirly pattern with some stick-on jewels… IF we manage to maintain our DIY momentum after the save the date cards!

Thank Yous:

The thank you cards will most likely be simple white cards with a love bird and, “Thank You” stamped on the front. That is, if we are still maintaining our crafty zeal even once the wedding is over!

We think it will be a great little personal touch, and we’re pumped about it.  Let us know what you think and if you have any DIY card-making tips!
